On 15 June 2026 the Central Bank of Nigeria required every payments participant to store and manage all payment transaction data inside Nigeria by 1 January 2027.

Data localisation is now a market-structure requirement for banks, fintechs, PSPs and mobile money operators, alongside UBO disclosure and systemic oversight measures.

What it covers
Primary processing, databases, backups and administrative functions: identity and access, encryption keys and audit logs. Foreign replication and foreign cloud dependency are prohibited.
